Report:

The look of horror on every AGFC players face when Liverpool emerged from the dressing room was hilarious. They had matching kit (including shorts and socks), their oldest player was 27 (AGFCs youngest player was also 27!!) and none of them had a beer gut!! Liverpool Uni Old Boys my arse!! Add to the equation a very warm night and the prospects of chasing these whippets was not looking too enticing. None the less AGFC got stuck in and encouragingly found that they could hold their own against a very good side. Twice Liverpool went ahead in the first half (with a good free kick from their striker and a Carlos deflection that spun out of Craig H's hands (the least said about that the better)) and twice AGFC pegged them back (Fraser hassling the defender got to a back pass before the goalkeeper and knocked it in the net and Calvin finishing after a strong run and clever pass from Enda). 2-2 at half time and AGFC were feeling confident and the Red Bull girls lifted the spirits even higher!!

AGFC took some time to settle into the second half due to new personnel and positional changes and found themselves 4-2 down after 15 minutes (the first a good run and finish and the second an excellent over the shoulder volley both from their striker). But again AGFC fought back and some neat interplay between Emyr, Enda and Simon found Carlos who squared it for Calvin to finish. AGFC were now on top especially in midfield and chance fell to Calvin, Enda, Emyr, Fraser and Carlos who couldn't capitalise. In the dieing minutes Liverpool got a penalty (Ceri trip) and put the game safe at 5-3.

Given how despondent we all were after the disastrous summer tournament, AGFC needed this performance to lift the spirits and get us ready for the coming season. We never picked an AGFC MoM for the game but I think it would be an injustice to the collective team effort to do so. Everyone work their backsides off, passed intelligently and supported each other. Big well done!!!!!
