Report:
AGFC got their first victory of 2009, and 10th of the season, with a confident win against a makeshift Vets team. The match almost had 'unofficial' status as Vets were short of players, however, just before kick-off an extra Vets player appeared from the Treforest night to make the game 'official' much to the satisfaction of the AGFC squad. Fraser got the first goal with battling harassment of the Vets keeper, the ball spun into the air and Fraser was quickest to react. The second goal, after halftime, again went to Fraser who looked to have taken on too many players, however, persistence and determination paid off and he finished confidently. The third, a sweeping box-to-box goal, was gifted to Enda to pass into an empty net. Enda blocked a shot inside the AGFC area, it was cleared to Fraser on the halfway line who held the ball well, Enda and Rich both raced the length of the pitch in support and either could have scored as the ball broke free in the Vets box. Rich's now legendary poaching prowess won the fourth goal, a shot was spilled by the Vets keeper and Rich, quickest to react, thumped the ball home. The final goal of the night was fortuitous and owed a debt of gratitude to the wind but Fraser none the less got his deserved hat-trick when he looped the ball into the air over the outracing Vets keeper. The ball seemed to be going wide but the wind appeared to bring it back and it just dipped under the bar.
Vets battled gamely throughout but AGFC always had the ability to score immediately after conceding thus making it a comfortable and enjoyable evening. Simon continued to grow in confidence between the sticks and had plenty of support in the hard tackling forms of Huw, Pete, Tony and Andi in front of him. Steve rolled back the years to put in an assured and calm performance as holding mid. Ant and Enda, were given free reign to cover the pitch and both did so in typical frenetic fashion. Rich and Craig H worked endlessly on the wings to support Fraser up front while always trying to ensure that their defense was never exposed. But the performance of the night was Fraser who got his second hat-trick of the season and is comfortably making the lone striker role his forte!! Well done everyone!!
