Report:

AGFC made it 7 matches without defeat as they were involved in a high scoring draw with Newport Old Boys. At the end of the first half AGFC were 1 goal to the good as they battled back from NOB’s opening goal .The first goal saw Calvin latch onto an Enda cross and head straight at the goalkeeper who parried the ball back into Calvin’s path. The second goal was also down to Calvin.

AGFC had made the most of the extra man in the first half but this advantage had been switched to NOB’s in the second period. Calvin made the score 3-1 to the Home side with a poachers effort after the keeper had fumbled . AGFC maintained their advantage until NOB’s scored 3 goals in succession, the first a controversial penalty as the ball hit Dave’s hand in the box although the defender did not know too much about it. With 5 minutes left on the clock it looked like AGFC would be heading towards their first defeat since 23 January 2009 until they showed their tenacity which has made them so difficult to beat this campaign. Simon’s long range header left the NOBs keeper rooted to the spot but unfortunately the ball cannoned off the post. Calvin was on hand though to drill the ball across the face of goal to be met by a late run from Rich at the back post who scored to level matters. Pete performed well in the heart of the AGFC defence to secure a few votes but it was Calvin who took the man of the match award with his hat trick display (and fourteenth goal in 3 matches) to surge ahead in the battle for the golden boot.
