Report:

AGFC were dealt a devastating blow just minutes before kick off when midfield anchorman and talisman for the night Emyr pulled out of the match citing personal reasons. This was to have been Em’s long awaited comeback following a long term groin injury and shocked AGFC players looked up against it against a young Tom’s XI outfit. As the match kicked off any sense of apprehension was quickly dispelled as after 30 seconds in Panny picked up the ball just outside the penalty area and unleashed an unstoppable shot to register one of AGFC’s quickest ever goals (if not the quickest goals). This goal gave AGFC the confidence to produce arguably their finest half of football for this season, and perhaps the last few seasons, as they scored a further 4 goals as they completely dominated proceedings. Calvin scored all four goals, the pick of which was a sumptuous flick over the keepers head from a long ball from Panny. The opposition barely had a shot on goal and they struggled for an answer as they were bamboozled by AGFC’s skill and quality on the ball.

It was always going to difficult for AGFC to replicate their first half display but they turned in another excellent half of football and the goal tally was added to by Rich and Booty, while Calvin became the only player in AGFC history to score 6 goals in a match as Tom’s XI were run ragged once again. To be fair, AGFC could have scored a few more if it wasn’t for the performance of the Tom’s XI goalkeeper who excelled. The opposition kept going to the end in the hope of rescuing something and getting on the scoresheet although ultimately their efforts were fruitless as they came across an AGFC Team on fire. Plaudits should go to all eleven players but special mention goes to Enda who worked tirelessly throughout, Panny who was creative and industrious and Calvin who could do no wrong in front of goal. Despite these outstanding performance it was Hugh who collected the man of the match honour as he didn’t put a foot wrong in the backline in helping the defence remain watertight, and contributing in attack with several forays into the opposition half with the energy and enthusiasm of a man half his age.
