Legends
Paul 'Chopper' Childerhouse
A fully committed central midfield player, Chopper was famed for his full
blooded challenges which left opposition players battered and bruised and also
for his consumption of copious amounts of soft drugs.
The pinnacle of his
AGFC career was during a match against the StrangeXI when drug and booze free he
ran riot for the full 90 minutes frightening opposition players (and his Team
Mates) inspiring AGFC to their first win over the Strange XI in the pouring
rain. Chopper retired to New Zealand in 2001.
Rob 'The Teacher'
A short but fruitful career with AGFC the 'Marco Van Basten of the Valleys'
frightened defences with his speed and skill. He became the first AGFC player to
score a hattrick as he netted 4 goals in AGFC's record 10-2 win over Probation
Services in the late 1990's. Rob left to pursue a less illustrious career of
being a teacher in Swansea.
Ben ' The Gazelle' Naylor
The West Country Winger with the grace and speed of a Cheetah. Opposition
sides were bedazled by his numerous gallops down the flank (unfortunately he did
not always take the ball with him !) Will always be famed for his own goal
exploits. Now resident in middle England.
Nick 'The Rhino' Kesterton
A long serving AGFC player who retire in 2003 after 10 years loyal service to
the Club. Made up for his lack of speed with full bodied challenges and total
commitment in the green shirt.
Humphreys ' The Priest'
AGFC' first proper goalkeeper, Humphreys turned in a number of impressive
displays betwen the sticks for the men in Green made even more remarkable by the
fact he was very short sighted! Rated as the third best goalkeeper ever behind
Lev Yashin and Neville Southall after one outstanding display (albeit by
Thickett in a pub after he had drunk 10 pints!). Humphreys has now taken up his
new vocation in the Priesthood.
Martyn Dinsley
This long haired Geordie starred for AGFC in the mid 1990's. The midfield
maestro was influential in encouraging AGFC to start playing 11 a sides and
turned in some influential performances in some early wins. Dinsley retieed to
live in Leicesterashire in 1999.
Calvin Yau
An important player in the Club’s History, Calvin played a total of 4
seasons for AGFC and left in the Summer of 2009 to move back home to Hong Kong.
A strong tackler and good finisher Calvin could play in both central midfield
or as a striker. His phenomenal strike rate will be difficult to beat and on
the date of leaving the club he held the record for the most hat tricks scored
by an AGFC player with 15. Calvin capped his AGFC career in fine style by
collecting the golden boot and player of the year awards for the 2008/09 season.
Ian 'Maj' Major
Started his AGFC career as far back as 1994 Maj played a total 13 seasons
and was one of the longest serving players in the Club’s history. More than
just another footballer Maj will be remembered for representing the true spirit
and ethos of AGFC – a club which plays the game competitively and fairly but
without taking things too seriously. A versatile player, while starting his
career in defence, Maj went on to make appearances both in midfield and as
goalkeeper for AGFC. Maj won the most improved player of the year award in
2006. Maj moved from his beloved Beddau in the summer of 2008 to live in
the Nottingham area.
