Triton City, by Buckminster Fuller

I love this model of a proposed floating city, “Triton”, designed by the late American architect Richard Buckminster “Bucky” Fuller (I even love his name). There’s something so fantastically modern and futuristic about its design, despite being over 40 years old.

The sloping surface of the city was intended to give all residents their own outside garden terrace. The hidden interior of the city was to be filled with shopping centres and other communal spaces (where natural light would presumably be less of an issue).

I used to live near the Barbican in the City of London, and Fuller’s 1960’s design bears a striking resemblance to my old neighbourhood:


Triton even has 3 similar high rise towers on top!
