Not as interesting as its name would suggest I'm afraid. This simple little program does
one well defined job - every x number of minutes (specified by the user), it "prods" a
specified hard drive to make sure it's still connected. It does this by writing, then
instantly deleting a temp file to the root of that drive.
This program was written as a quick solution for a friend of mine who found that his new
USB2 hard drive kept disconnecting itself after not being accessed for 20 minutes. By setting
the Disk Prodder delay to 10 minutes he could be sure that the drive would never disconnect
itself again.
This program would be ideal for people experiencing a similar problem to the one described
above, or for users who perhaps want to be warned when a network/shared drive becomes
disconnected. Disk Prodder uses virtually no resources, and sits quietly in System Tray as a
discreet little icon.
To download Disk Prodder, right-click on the link below, and save the zip file
to your computer (PC only I'm afraid, it won't work on Mac/Linux).
Unzip the contents, and double-click on the file "DiskProdder.exe". That's it!
