If you want to download a file from the web, for example a PDF, MP3, or video, it's common practice to right-click
on the link with your mouse, and select "Save target as..." or "Save link as..." to save the file to
your hard drive.
However, sometimes you only have the URL of the file (perhaps from an email, or by viewing the source code of a
web page), and when you paste the URL into your web browser, instead of downloading the file it opens in the
appropriate program. For example, if you try browsing to the URL of a PDF document, it typically opens using Adobe
Acrobat Reader embedded in the browser; try browsing to the URL of an MP3 file, and it's likely to start playing
in Windows Media Player (or the MAC/Linux equivalent media player).
The Download Link Generator is a simple tool to generate a normal link for the file you'd like to download, giving
you back your precious "Save as..." capabilities.
